Butters
Handler: Melissa Reed
Emotional Support Animal | Retired Show Dog | World Traveler

Butters was more than a beloved companion—he was Melissa Ashley’s anchor, her healer, and her heart. The only son of Fiona, Butters was placed with Melissa as a young adult and initially shown in conformation. But it was in his role as an emotional support animal that his spirit truly shined.
During the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic, Butters became Melissa’s guiding light, encouraging her to step out of the darkness and rediscover life. Together, they traveled the world—surfing in Tamarindo, hiking through Costa Rica’s jungles, standing before the ancient majesty of Chichén Itzá, and admiring the statue of David in Florence. With every adventure, he helped Melissa reclaim her peace, her strength, and herself.
Butters passed away suddenly in May 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, courage, and unwavering companionship. “He was everything to me. He was part of me,” Melissa shares. “I have him to thank for my life today.”
He will always be remembered as a true “working dog in miniature,” whose greatest work was healing a human soul.
