We are an ethical small-scale breeder and exhibitor of Chihuahuas based in Rome, NY, with a primary focus on breeding for the health and well-being of our dogs. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of ethical breeding practices, which is why we ensure that all of our adult Chihuahuas are O.F.A. (www.ofa.org) tested before being bred. In addition, we use Embark DNA testing to screen our dogs for over 200 diseases.

As proud members of the Bred with H.E.A.R.T. program by AKC, we adhere to a strict code of conduct that ensures the well-being of our dogs and promotes responsible breeding practices. We aim to produce healthy, well-socialized Chihuahuas with excellent temperaments to make loving and loyal companions for their new families.

What We do different

We firmly believe in providing lifelong support for every Chihuahua we breed. Our commitment goes beyond the initial adoption phase; we stand by our dogs and their owners throughout the pet's life.

At A & A's Chihuahuas, we prioritize the advancement of canine health and genetics in our breeding program. We believe that each new generation of Chihuahuas should be healthier and more robust than the last. This commitment sets us apart from many breeders who might use terms like "Preservation Breeder" or "Breed Conservationist" without fully integrating health testing into their programs.

Our focus is on ensuring the long-term health and well-being of our Chihuahuas. This approach might mean a higher initial investment for a puppy. Still, it's a commitment to fewer health issues and vet visits over the dog's lifetime, providing more excellent overall value to our clients.

We do not follow trends such as breeding for tiny sizes or specific colors, as these factors do not contribute to the Chihuahua's fundamental health and structure. Instead, we adhere to standards that promote the breed's overall well-being.

Providing a puppy 'Swag Bag' with essentials for a smooth transition to their new home.
Conducting thorough health checks for each puppy at eight weeks, sharing results with new owners.
Offering Trupanion Health Insurance for every puppy.
Starting puppies on Revolution for heartworm, fleas, and deworming.
Administering 2 DHPP Vaccines before the puppy leaves our care.
Equipping each puppy with an AKC REUNITE MICROCHIP and offering pre-paid AKC registration.
Providing lifetime support and a no-questions-asked return policy for any dog we've bred.
Offering a lifetime health guarantee against congenital disabilities.
We will publicly share all health reports, including unfavorable ones, and link them to our dogs' profiles on our website.
Calculating inbreeding ratios to maintain genetic diversity and reduce health issues.
We are part of the BRED with H.E.A.R.T. program with the AKC to continually improve our knowledge of dog breeding and genetics.
Conducting DNA coat color tests and Embark DNA Health Tests for over 200 known health issues, including common breed diseases.
Performing OFA Health Tests for eyes, patellas, heart, and Degenerative Myelopathy on all dogs over one year of age.
